The Cision Communications Cloud, and the Cision Communications Cloud NextGen are media monitoring tools that enable communications teams to plan and monitor their PR and earned media activities. Cision's product collect media content from print, online, radio, television and social media in addition to profiles of journalists and influencers to inform teams about how to connect with journalists and understand the brand impacts that PR activities hold.

About the role
As a Team Lead, you will help build, scale and improve the backend of a fast-growing Customer Experience platform. You will oversee/coach individual contributors and be responsible for your team’s delivery of high-quality, robust, scalable software solutions to meet the needs of the Cision global organization. You will aid us in building a real time, scalable, stable platform serving thousands of clients in a reliable and performant manner. You will be using new technologies, to solve hard problems in a friendly and encouraging work environment. You will also be encouraged to share your experience and knowledge, sparring with your colleagues to grow together!
As a Team Lead, you will improve our client’s experience and optimize internal processes for maximum efficiency. With your peers, you will assist in the effort of defining Cision’s development practices. You will work closely with the other Engineering and Product teams to help Cision deliver high quality software to our customers.
What You'll Do
As a team lead, you’ll manage the day-to-day activity of your team. You’ll mostly lead the team SCRUM meetings and other meetings to make sure that everything stays on topic and goals are accomplished
You’ll work closely with the product owner and be their technical “point person” for help with understanding and prioritizing the backlog as well as triaging bugs
You’ll also keep an eye on the team’s sprint overall so you can get a feel for when things aren’t going well. If they aren’t, you’ll communicate that to the product owner and any other stakeholders and work on reallocating team resources or start creating contingency plans
You’ll be the last line of defense for making sure the team’s work is done
You’ll verify that the definition of done is met and make sure to hold everyone accountable
You’ll need to strike the balance for the team between building quality, maintainable software, getting work done that helps the business move forward and going down endless rabbit holes of refactoring to achieve code perfection
You’ll facilitate cross team communication to make sure all teams involved have what they need to get work done and any risks are surfaced sooner rather than later
Mentoring your team members will also be a primary concern for you. Working with management to understand the goals of your team members and delegate work in a safe and controlled way to get them the experience they need without increasing risk on projects
Build highly scalable, high volume data processing pipelines with a DevOps mindset
Help design, implement and improve our services while helping us adopt best practices
Write clean, self testing, well documented code
Who You Are
Experienced in leading software engineering projects
Demonstrated track record working with Product, other departments, and other areas of IT
An experienced marksman who is confident in leading and implementing the creation of cutting edge microservice solutions for real life problems
Hands-on and proactive, with a wealth of experience handling cross-department stakeholders
Enjoy working with team members, while at the same time making decisions that fit the overarching goals and deadlines
What You Have
1-2 years of experience leading teams or projects and be passionate about software delivery
Proven experience of coaching/mentoring engineers in an Agile environment
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in software development, commercial software and methodologies is required. Broad exposure working on a variety of platforms is required
Good knowledge of Java, we are using Java 11
Good knowledge of Spring ecosystem
Experience with relational and NoSQL (e.g. ElasticSearch) databases
Good knowledge of RESTful APIs, their design and implementation
Experience with messaging technologies, Kafka is a big plus, we use it a
Experience with building and/or running large-scale applications on a PaaS/SaaS cloud, preferably AWS
Knowledge of Docker and containerization, Kubernetes a big plus
English language fluency
