One of the core lines of business at Cision is Distribution, a global line of business representing almost half of the annual revenue, and many well-known brands (PRNewsire, PRWeb, ProfNet, HARO).  Over 300,000 press releases and other forms of content are distributed to 100s of thousands of network endpoints annually.  Foundational to this Distribution business is the network of endpoints this content traverses.   

The Senior Director, Networks’ mission is to develop, operationalize and execute a network roadmap for the Distribution line of business. This role will also lead the physical Distribution network and the audience management strategy and execution.

Objectives:

  • Develop global organization to support network strategy. Network development, audience segmentation, audience development and operations  
  • Crystalize short- and long-term goals ranging from BAU to innovation 
  • Develop network dashboard for Sales to leverage  
  • Develop alignment with Product and Marketing to align and monetize network initiatives 
  • Develop global network database for all global endpoints.  Include email, sites, traditional media, internal sites 
  • Audit and segment existing network endpoints  
  • Develop automated process for Network maintenance and upkeep 
  • Develop automated visibility report process globally 
  • Develop performance-based endpoint alignment with Product (VR) teams
  • Develop a global Commercial network team ranging from opportunity identification to onboarding 

Core Competencies

  • Commercial media industry expertise with concentrated large enterprise and affiliate account management.  Skills include: Opportunity and strategy development, contract negotiation, relationship management. 
  • Extensive commercial media expertise; paid, earned and performance. Familiar with audience data and segmentation.  
  • Previous experience in the editorial content generation ecosystem (editorial or business development supporting editorial teams) preferred. 
  • Extensive channel and brand development experience, experience in performance-based advertising and eCommerce 
  • PE Mindset: Dynamic and agile vs. a caretaker; capable of problem-solving at the evolving & fast pace required in Private Equity 
  • Ownership: an individual who displays a high degree of proactivity and accountability in their work and instills that mindset in their teams. Comfortable operating and making decisions in situations with limited data, little structure and/or few established processes. Willing to work though ambiguity and prioritize with 80/20 focus 
  • Team and Capability Building-Proven capabilities of identifying talent, building teams, working in environments where process maturity is required.  Has ability to teach and foster continuous improvement and to install systems and processes where ones have not existed or are sub-standard 
  • EBITDA mindset and financial acumen capable of adding margin via multiple commercial levers, not just optimization on the back end of the business; appreciates added complexity of legacy tools, processes, and people. 
  • Communication: clear and data-driven communicator, able to articulate vision and direction, as well as convey complex problems with ease. Experience communicating with board-level audiences down through to front-line staff 
  • Leadership: Clear communicator, can articulate a vision and direction; successful particularly in situations with significant change. Comfortable managing businesses across multiple channels
