We’re currently looking for a Payroll & Benefits Manager to join the team.

The Payroll & Benefits Manager is responsible for running full cycle payroll and all related activities for 4 payrolls for 350+ employees (unionized and non-unionized) across Canada. This includes all aspects of the preparation, processing and financial reporting related to the payroll system and ensuring overall compliance with provincial, and federal requirements and the timely processing of semi-monthly payroll. This job also coordinates the efficient administration of pension and benefits for all employees.

Key Accountabilities

  • Overall administration and processing of semi-monthly payrolls including but not limited to; changes, new hires, terminations, overtime, employee referral bonuses, garnishments, ROE and vacation pay, etc. for all full time salaried, hourly, contract, virtual, union and part-time employees across multiple business units. Processes manual / off-cycle pay as required.
  • Oversees the group insurance benefits and pension enrollment process including new hires, changes, terminations and reporting. Assumes a lead role and coordinates the payment of group insurance and RRSP contributions. Liaises with benefits and pension providers as required.
  • Prepares reconciliation for semi monthly payrolls, and monthly benefit and pension reporting.
  • Prepares and reconciles the semi-monthly General Ledger wages journals.
  • Compiles year-end processing and reporting for T4, T4A, Relevé 1, T2200s, taxable benefits, garnishee, EHT, WSIB, CSST Returns and other jurisdictional forms as required.
  • Administers the timekeeping and PTO system.
  • Provides payroll/compensation related management reporting (e.g., overtime, vacation/sick/personal accrual), produce ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Reconciles and audits all payroll entries and assumes a lead role in coordinating efforts for audits (internal/external).


  • College Diploma (or equivalent) in Business Administration, HR or Finance or a related field is required.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration in multi-province, multi legal entity payroll and benefits is required
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation of the Federal and Provincial Tax Regulations coupled with best payroll and benefits administration practices and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using payroll systems, accounting principles and general ledgers.
  • Advanced knowledge of Time & Attendance and HRIS systems and Excel.
  • Advanced time management and ability to work under strict and established deadlines, attention to detail and organizational skills. Adaptable and flexible with an ability to respond to changing work priorities, pressures and demands.
