As a Design Research Lead at Cision, you will lead design research toward developing user insights that drive innovative product experiences and outcomes. This critical role will support key product initiatives in R&D as well as standardizing Cision’s research practice by creating effective research frameworks, setting an expectation of customer-led mindsets, and organizing Cision’s overall customer feedback loops. The Design Research Lead will also help shape our new team of design researchers that support experiences for customers.


  • As a contributor, you will enable user-centricity by cultivating best practices in customer journey processes, personas, customer insights and user testing
  • You will take part in leading by example - conducting surveys, user interviews, competitive/comparative analysis and synthesizing findings
  • You will standardize our practice and enable other design researchers to deliver at their best through high-quality work at scale
  • You will help create new flexible tools for design research
  • You will help keep product teams accountable for delivering against core customer needs and pain points in order to achieve experience impact
  • You will lead product teams by helping them utilize design metrics and monitoring, enabling data-driven insight practices as well as working with CES, CSAT and other forms of experience OKRs
  • You will be a strong advocate for the “voice of customer” and support user centric education as needed
  • You will build, set up and maintain customer advisory boards that support gaining critical user feedback around Cision products
  • You will help lead by example by building and conducting best practice workshop facilitation, planning and synthesis
  • You will support key strategic research initiatives that drive core parts of the business – this may include liaising with other cross-team design researchers within other Cision acquisitions
  • You will consider an inclusive mindset toward different customer needs such as special needs in accessibility, WCAG, and equitable benefits of our service


  • Minimum of 5-6 years of experience in design research
  • Have supported in-depth full lifecycles of research activities for shipped digital products
  • You have an established point of view on your research methodology and demonstrate a strong understanding of research practices and principles
  • You are an exceptional presenter and conveyer of insights and voice of the customer
  • You have strong experience running design workshops – planning, facilitating, and synthesizing findings to both middle management and executive stakeholders
  • You have a portfolio that represents at least 3 complete research case studies demonstrating different aspects of the research lifecycle
  • You can adapt to changing dynamics and apply research methodology to unique situations that address key business outcomes
  • You are a strong communicator and collaborator with other team designers by including them in your process and channeling effective insights that drive product solutions
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in design or design research/HCI or have attained strong levels of certification in the field of design research
  • You are able to effectively leverage digital tools that funnel customer feedback toward driving business impact
  • You have a service design mindset and understand how to delivery exceptional experience across digital touchpoints
